Circuit Court Mediation Project
In partnership with the St. Joseph Circuit Court, we have helped to write and finance a program for divorcing couples to mediate their cases instead of leaving them in the traditional adversarial system. Couples with divorces pending more than a year are given the option of using a nonpartisan mediator to help them in resolving their own issues, with part of the mediation cost paid by Freedom 22. Qualified mediators agree to work at a reduced rate.
We are attracted to the opportunity to help divorcing couples appreciate that they are primarily responsible for sparing their children the unnecessary and damaging effects of prolonged conflict during and following divorce, and to assist them to find healing resolutions to the issues before them.
We are grateful to Circuit Judge Terry A. Crone for the opportunity to participate in this innovative project.
